When will the carnival finally return?
October 2025.
We’ve got some good news…
We have draft proposals in place to deliver an event on Weymouth Seafront which will include a procession, music and games. We will provide more information about this once we have confirmation that the event will go ahead.
Why October?
We conducted a survey and our community and local businessess would like to see the carnival return out of season to support the economy when the town isn’t usually busy.
Halloween
The theme for this event will be halloween.
Where we began.
Where it began…
The Weymouth Carnival C.I.C was incorporated in August 2022 by current Directors Kallum Gethins and Jake Brewer who both envisioned the return of Weymouth Carnival for 2024.
Our goals and objectives for the future.
Economy. EDI. Community.
1. Strengthening the Local Economy
One of the primary goals of Weymouth Carnival is to stimulate the local economy by attracting visitors, supporting small businesses, and creating opportunities for local vendors and artists. The carnival’s schedule of events, vendors, and attractions is thoughtfully curated to showcase Weymouth’s diverse offerings. By drawing in tourists and encouraging residents to enjoy the festivities, the carnival provides a substantial economic boost to hotels, restaurants, and retailers. This positive economic impact extends beyond the carnival itself, supporting the year-round vitality of Weymouth’s business community and reinforcing our commitment to sustainable, local economic growth by putting Weymouth onto the map.
Objectives:
Attract a high volume of visitors from across the UK and abroad to support local businesses.
Encourage local businesses to participate and promote their goods and services.
Provide financial opportunities for independent artisans, food vendors, and performers.
2. Celebrating and Building Community Spirit
At the heart of Weymouth Carnival is a desire to bring together the community in celebration. The carnival is a place where families, friends, and neighbors can gather, connect, and share positive experiences that strengthen bonds. Through music, parades, art exhibitions, and games, the carnival fosters an inclusive and joyful atmosphere that promotes unity and pride in the Weymouth community. Activities are planned to cater to people of all ages, creating opportunities for engagement, volunteering, and meaningful interactions among community members.
Objectives:
Create inclusive activities that foster community engagement.
Develop partnerships with local schools, community groups, and organizations to maximize participation.
Encourage volunteerism to deepen community ties and a sense of shared purpose.
3. Promoting Equality, Diversity, and Inclusivity (EDI)
Weymouth Carnival is committed to ensuring that the event is a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for all. Our mission on Equality, Diversity, and Inclusivity is central to the planning, structure, and execution of the carnival. We aim to represent and celebrate the diversity of Weymouth’s residents by providing accessible experiences that are considerate of different backgrounds, abilities, and cultural expressions. The carnival actively works to create an atmosphere of mutual respect and belonging, ensuring that all community members feel valued and able to fully enjoy the festivities.
Our structured EDI policies include thorough accessibility assessments, a diverse range of cultural programming, and a dedicated team responsible for addressing the unique needs of all attendees. Additionally, we offer training to all staff and volunteers to ensure a knowledgeable, respectful, and supportive environment. Through these efforts, Weymouth Carnival strives to set a positive example of inclusivity, both within the community and beyond.
Objectives:
Ensure representation in all aspects of carnival programming to reflect Weymouth’s diverse community.
Provide training on inclusivity and cultural sensitivity for all carnival staff and volunteers.
Establish accessible routes, facilities, and assistance points to accommodate individuals with disabilities.
Monitor and review EDI policies annually to continuously improve and adapt to the evolving needs of the community.
